2013 Cabernet Franc

Pure ripe blueberry, blackberry and plum are elevated by subtle frankincense, exotic spice and white flower notes. On the palate, this wine rivals some vintages of our Reserve Cabernet, while somehow still maintaining the ethereal character that we all love in our Cabernet Franc.  The blend includes 10% merlot from our Rocky Top vineyard block (the first block of merlot to be harvested, in late September of 2013) which adds richness to the wine and 7% cabernet sauvignon from our Rock Arch vineyard block (the backbone of our Reserve Cabernet) which allows the finish to stretch on and on.

The 2013 Cabernet Franc is fabulous. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, spice, menthol, mocha and new leather are all super-expressive in the glass. Rich, sumptuous and varietally expressive, the 2013 hits all the right notes. The Franc is one of the hidden jewels in the range, not to mention a hugely positive surprise in this range.

  • Wine Spectator: August 2016 - Rating: 93

Broad, rich and expansive, with juicy black licorice, blackberry, loamy earth, dried herb and light toasty oak, this puts a lot of flavor out front and maintains a refined, delicate balance through the long finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,377 cases made.–JL

  • Wine Enthusiast: October 2016 - Rating: 90

Rich, thick and blended with 10% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, this dual-county red is high in ripeness and tannin, well representing the vintage in terms of enviable structure, as well. Leathery earth and juicy black currant are tempered by dried herb. Drink now through 2023.
