2019 Cabernet Franc

Enticing flavors of ripe red raspberries, tart cherries, blueberries, violet pastilles and crushed mint excite the senses and provoke the intellect. The texture is layered and unctuous, expressing both ripe fruit and balanced acidity with a crescendo of fully ripe fine tannins. A beautiful rendition of our Cab Franc.

While cabernet franc is universally associated with lingering herbaceous flavors, our mountaintop's long days of summer sunshine, including warm mornings and cool afternoons, allow the fruit to ripen slowly and develop gorgeous fruit and floral flavors with no green notes whatsoever. These four vineyard blocks were hand-picked at night over the last week of October, nearly the last grapes to be harvested from the 2019 vintage. To this pretty core, we added 6% cabernet sauvignon to build the mid-palate and finish.

Updated notes from July 2022:

From the moment it came into being, the 2019 Cab Franc expressed greater density and darker flavor nuances wrapped around its central core of red fruit than we often see.  This has not changed in the ensuing year in bottle.  Ripe cherries, damson plums, black tea, violet pastilles and black licorice give way to a concentrated palate that elicits gravitas without any chalky bite.  Simply gorgeous and one of our favorites ever.

The 2019 Cabernet Franc is a stellar wine. The Pride Franc has always had some percentage of blenders, but the 2019 is almost all Franc, and that really comes through in the wine's aromatic profile and overall energy. Silky tannins round out the finish. The Franc is one of the hidden gems sprinkled throughout this impressive range from Pride.

  • Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate: Issue 257 End of October 2021, The Wine Advocate - Rating: 92

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Franc hits the ground running with vibrant notions of redcurrant jelly, black raspberries and cedar, plus hints of pencil lead, wild sage and forest floor with a touch of dried mint. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with vibrant red berry preserves and black fruit accents, supported by finely grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and with a skip in its step.
