2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite simply delicious, exhibiting charming fruit notes of cassis, plum and blueberry compote, along with chocolate, black tea, rose oil and coffee. The palate is rich, lush and opulent – virtually bursting with flavor – and its age-worthy tannins are present without being overwhelming. This is a gorgeous wine that is already drinking well but has the stuffing to go the long haul.

All the finished red wines in 2015 are among the very best we have ever made at Pride Mountain Vineyards. Our 2015 cabernet sauvignon was harvested during the last two weeks of September and the first three weeks of October, relatively early for us here at the top of Spring Mountain. The wines were fermented on the skins for 12 – 30 days and were then gently pressed to French oak barrels, 50% new. After aging in barrels for 19 months and racking the wines six times, the final blend was assembled using wines from all sixteen of our cabernet sauvignon blocks as well as 6% merlot and 7% petit verdot. The wine was bottled on July 11th, 2017.

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Issue 240 - Rating: 93+

A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot coming from Napa Valley (54%) and Sonoma County (46%), the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet color with a hint of purple and is enticingly scented of chocolate covered cherries, warm mulberries, cassis and raspberry pie with touches of cedar chest, red roses, wood smoke and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with fragrant earth and black fruit layers, supported by firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long with a minty kick. 5,945 cases were made.

  • California Grapevine: Volume 44, July 2018 - Rating: 90

2015 Pride Mountain Vineyards, 54% Napa and 46% Sonoma ($74) – Medium-dark ruby; attractive, deep, ripe, cedary, dark cherry, cassis, and blackberry fruit aroma with herbal notes, and hints of black tea and dark chocolate; full body; rich, ripe, textured, cedary, red and dark fruit flavors with good depth and concentration, and a note of charred oak; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Approachable now, though currently showing some roughness on the finish and deserving several more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 14.7% alcohol; 5,945 cases; blended with 7% PV and 6% Merlot; released November 2017. (Group Score: 16.4, 0/1/2; My Score: 17 [90/100], sixth place)
