2018 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark, deep and mysterious are the first impressions of this seamless weighty Reserve Cab that is remarkable both for its satisfying density from the attack through the middle and for its silky soothing texture on the long persistent finish, which again is typical of all our 2018 reds. Concentrated flavors of dark cherry, cacao nibs, anise, cedar and rose flower infuse this strikingly smooth, balanced and rich Reserve Cab, which can be enjoyed early but, as always, has the gravitas for long-term cellaring.

Pride's flagship 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is going to need a number of years to come around. Black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice, lavender and mocha all open with a bit of time. This deceptively mid-weight Cabernet packs plenty of mountain punch. The Reserve is not an obvious wine, especially in comparison with what these wines were like a few years ago.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: December 2021 - Rating: 93
Not all great Cabernets show off in their youth, and this is one that takes time to reveal itself. Its dark fruit and tight composition limits its first aromas to basic ripe cherries with side notes of loam and dried currants. As it airs, the wine adds in greater richness and delivers spot-on varietal character that, while still reserved, has plenty of depth to go with its Cabernet specificity. It is correspondingly tight and challenging on the palate at this point, yet it reiterates both its admirable focus and convincing depth. It is tannic, to be sure, in a way that young, ageworthy wines often are, and we suggest that it be laid away for five to eight years at a minimum. And a wait of a decade or more will not hurt.
