2023 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2023 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an exuberant wine balancing power and refinement. Building upon the legacy of our Rock Arch block of cabernet that was planted in 1980 and has always contributed to our Reserve Cab, the 2023 benefits as always from the depth and complexity provided by those 45-year-old vines, but it is further elevated by the dark-fruit intensity coming from our 12-year-old blocks cultivated from Rock Arch cuttings. Aromas are dominated by plum, mulberry and black currant, that eventually yield to cigar box, sage and graphite. The harmony of fruit and savory holds true on the palate as the intense black fruit thrums with a crushed rock minerality. The supple texture and fruit are braced by a velvety tannin structure to create a finish that stretches on and on.

Impressive poise with a fine touch and precise detail. Aromas of black currants, black olives, licorice, graphite, wet stones and bay leaves lead to a silken palate, offering lovely depth of flavor and no hard edges. Melting, polished tannins frame a near-complete, harmonious finish with nerve and tension. An excellent cabernet sauvignon from grapes grown on Spring Mountain. Drink or hold.

While best known as a Napa winery, Pride's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes primarily from the Sonoma side of the property (85%). Originally planted to a selection from Bella Oaks Vineyard, this vintage's nose is marked by deep cassis and mixed red and black cherries, all underscored by hints of mocha and cedar. The 50% new French oak gives this ripe, full-bodied wine a sense of firmness, while at the same time imparting a velvety sheen to the ribs of the structure. The long, mouthwatering finish perfectly caps off this wine, which overdelivers on quality in the context of Napa Valley Cabernet.
