2007 Vintner Select Merlot

2007 Vintner Select Merlot

The hits from the much-awaited 2007 vintage continue to roll out. Our Vintner Select Merlot, crafted from 100% Clone 3 Merlot from our aromatic and unctuous Lower Mountain Top vineyard block (the same block that is used as the Merlot component in our Reserve Claret), is an in-house favorite. Across the board, our 2007 vintage wines express pure varietal character paired with tremendous ageability, and are classic examples of the Pride terroir. Undulating layers of supple flavors, ranging from fresh strawberry to graphite, raspberry, black cherry and bitter cocoa, dance on the palate. This wine is our classic “Cab-lover’s Merlot,” even bigger and silkier than our estate offering, and is poised to evolve over the next decade and beyond.

Very good red-ruby color. Ripe and inviting aromas of cherry, blueberry, graphite, flowers and sexy oak (50% new). High-toned and savory in the mouth, with terrific juicy intensity to the red fruit, spice and mineral flavors. Finishes with firm tannins and excellent aromatic persistence. A seriously structured mountain-style merlot that's built to age.

  • The Wine Advocate: December 23, 2010 Issue 192 - Rating: 93

Ratcheting up the level of concentration, the 2007 Merlot Vintner's Select (100% Sonoma fruit) reveals a dense purple color, full-bodied power, a beautiful nose of sweet black cherries, black currants, chocolate and espresso beans and deep, fleshy, intense, velvety textured flavors bursting with red and black fruits and spices. This gorgeous Merlot should drink well for a decade.
