2018 Viognier

This delightful wine possesses a classic Viognier character, with heady aromas of nectarine, peach, citrus, gardenia and orange blossoms. On the palate, the wine is lush, round and oily, with a bright acidity that brings balance and lingering richness to the wine.  Truly a gorgeous viognier in line with our best vintages.

Our viognier is grown in three separate blocks, each contributing something special to the blend. The Mountain Top block sits at the summit of our estate, basking in sunlight and developing exuberant flavors and an unctuous character. The Lower Mountain Top block is on a south-facing hillside and consequently develops a range of flavors, slightly riper and richer at the top of the hill and brighter and leaner at the bottom.  Our Terraces block is cut into the western edge of the estate and contributes bright acidity and floral notes. All the viognier grapes are hand-harvested at night then gently pressed and racked to neutral French oak barrels for fermentation.  Malolactic fermentation is entirely inhibited.

The 2018 Viognier is fabulous. In fact, this vintage is one of the very best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. Rich and luscious with tons of varietal character, the 2018 conveys intensity with no excess weight. I loved it.

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Issue 245 End of October 2019 - Rating: 91

The 2018 Viognier comes from vines planted in 1993 and was made without new oak or malolactic. It sings of honey drizzled white peaches, poached pears and lychees with nuances of spice cake, coriander seed, paraffin wax and fresh hay. Medium to full-bodied, it has compelling freshness and a savory edge in the mouth, eventually giving way to the exuberant stone fruit and spicy flavors, finishing long with a refreshing kick. 1,249 cases produced.

Coming from Sonoma County, the 2018 Viognier reveals a medium gold color as well as a pretty bouquet of peach syrup, white flowers, and honeyed musk melon. It’s nicely textured, medium-bodied, a ripe, rounded mouthfeel, and a great finish. It’s a versatile, well-made Viognier geared for the dinner table.
