Calling the Pick: The Most Important Decision of the Year
Bring your walking shoes and a sunhat as you learn how to make the most important decision that any winery makes each year: when to harvest! Led by Director of Winegrowing Steve Pride and Winemaker Matt Ward, we'll walk the vineyards, visiting various blocks at different levels of ripeness and learn how to taste the fruit like an expert, looking for the tell-tale signs of ripeness as you sample berries and take sugar measurements. In the process you will see how different grape varieties and different terroir influences ripening. The vineyard walk will be followed by a family-style lunch from Bottega Napa Valley with a special selection of wines from the Pride family's cellar.
This walk will be a total of two miles and will include going up and down steep slopes, on gravel, loose soil and slippery grass. Hiking shoes or athletic shoes with heavy non-slip treads are a must; motorized transport for this experience will not be available, so please be prepared to walk if you register for this event.
