Calling the Pick: The Most Important Decision of the Year

Bring your walking shoes and sunhat! This hike through the vineyards is designed to help you understand how we make the most important decision of the year: when to harvest. Led by Director of Winegrowing Steve Pride and Winemaker Matt Ward, we'll walk the vineyards, visiting various blocks at different levels of ripeness, learn how to taste fruit like an expert and look for tell-tale signs of ripeness. Sample berries, take sugar measurements and see how your individual sample measures up to the group’s! In the process, you will see how different grape varieties and different terroir influence ripening.

This walk will be a total of two miles and will include going up and down steep slopes, on gravel, loose soil and slippery grass. Hiking shoes or athletic shoes with heavy non-slip treads are a must; motorized transport for this experience will not be available, so please be prepared to walk if you register for this event.

A family-style lunch with a special selection of wines from the Pride family's cellar will wrap up the day.
