2019 Sangiovese

Pretty aromas of dark plum, cherry compote, sandalwood, fresh-cut flowers and earthiness.  The seamless structure balances a velvety richness against an ethereal lightness, with a subtle satisfying non-aggressive grip emerging on the finish. The silky caress wraps around the complex flavors to create a beautiful whole.  Pure pleasure!       


Note: following the precedent set by the 2017 vintage, the 2019 Sangiovese is bottled in 750 ml bottles, which will be the practice for all vintages of Sangiovese going forward.

    The 2019 Sangiovese is lovely. Crushed red berry fruit, spice and sweet floral notes all grace this silky, wonderfully nuanced red. Soft contours and mid-weight structure make the 2019 an absolute delight to taste today. A touch of Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and depth. The 2019 is beautifully done.

    Notably darker in color than most Cabernet Sangioveses and very much the extracted wine that its appearance suggests, Pride’s 2019 offering is a ripe and weighty effort that verges on opulence. It is mouthfilling stuff that runs to richness rather than finesse with elevated tannins affording it with a fair bit of brawn, and it does flirt with a trace of finishing heat. Its ample, black cherry fruit, however, is more than up to the task and has the strength to outlive its youthful toughness. Those willing to forgive its present raggedness may well find it to their liking as a near-term foil to well-marbled steaks and roasts, but we would wait on it for at least a few years and recommend that others do too. It has the goods to go for upwards of nine or ten.
