2018 Vintner Select Chardonnay

The enticing flavors of our 2018 Vintner Select Chardonnay range from honeysuckle, custard apple and stone fruit to crystallized ginger and agave to create a striking aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is round and lush, with balanced weight and texture. The acidity is moderate-high and lingers in the mouth with just the right amount of tingly verve.

Our VS Chardonnay is always a blend from the three chardonnay blocks on our property.  Due to greater UV light intensity on our mountaintop compared to the chardonnay we source from the Carneros and Russian River appellations for our Pride Chardonnay (approaching 2000 cases), our VS Chardonnay (about 300 cases) always has a rich mouth-filling character that is balanced by plenty of crisp acid and intense flavors to make a gorgeous one-of-a-kind “mountaintop” chardonnay.

  • The Wine Advocate: Issue 245 End of October 2019, The Wine Advocate - Rating: 93

Made with about one-third malolactic, the 2018 Chardonnay Vintner Select jumps out of the glass with expressive notions of apricot preserves, honeydew melon and green guava with hints of almond croissant, beeswax, honeysuckle and ginger. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating savory goodness and tropical fruit layers, framed with a lovely oiliness to the texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long and spicy. 350 cases produced.

  • Vinous: January 2020 - Rating: 93

The 2018 Chardonnay Vintner Select, from the Pride estate on Spring Mountain, marries brightness and a wonderful sense of translucency with mountain structure. White flowers, mint, white pepper, tangerine oil and almond all grace a distinctly powerful, phenolic Chardonnay that is best enjoyed at the dinner table.

  • Jeb Dunnuck: Napa Valley’s 2017s - Rating: 92

A smaller production cuvee, the 2018 Chardonnay Vintners Select comes all from Sonoma County and offers a slightly more crisp, racy style while still packing plenty of richness and depth. Buttered limes, honeyed citrus, and floral notes all define the bouquet and it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, mouthfilling texture, terrific balance between its acidity and fruit, and a clean finish. It’s rock solid and should evolve for 3-5 years or so, although there’s no need to hold off.
